When to spackle the metallic tub

For the metallic tubs, when should I sand and spackle (with bondo) the tub? Should I do it after the etching ?

Yes after de-greasing and etching it's best to dry the surface, then solvent wipe it. After the solvent has dried you may begin making repairs.
